2020 by the Numbers: ReefCI Conservation Accomplishments

Johnny Lee et al. posing for a picture

Needless to say, 2020 was a difficult year at best.  The Covid-19 pandemic forced ReefCI to shut down operations from March 2020 to November 2020 and we also weathered two hurricanes!  It was a struggle but we survived.  Hence, our conservation efforts were hampered by the worldwide pandemic but we did make a difference thanks to our 2020 volunteers!!

2020 marine conservation achievements (in only 4 months of operation due to the covid pandemic) by the numbers:

  • 2738 Invasive Lionfish removed from the Sapodilla Cayes Marine Reserve Park waters
  • 3481 pounds of plastic and trash removed from the ocean via our volunteer beach cleanups
  • 256 marine conservation presentations by our staff to increase awareness and knowledge of reef ecosystems

Reef Conservation International’s mission is to protect our oceans through hands-on conservation action and marine environmental education and awareness. We empower everyday global citizens to take an active role in directly protecting and conserving the Belize Barrier Reef and our oceans that we love via our marine conservation projects and environmental education and awareness.
