Creature Feature: Whitelined Toadfish

whitespotted-toadfish face

The whitelined toadfish is endemic to Belize, which means it is found nowhere else on planet earth.  If you want to see one in the wild, you can only do so in Belize!  Whitelined toadfish are extremely rare but can be found in and around coral reef crevices and caves where they spend a lot of time waiting for prey they can ambush.

It is not an endangered species; however, it is listed as threatened due to the fact that its home range is very limited and coral reefs are under many stressors that threaten their existence.

If you see one, count yourself among the lucky!
