Our Power, Our Planet is Earth Day 2026’s theme reflecting a fundamental truth: environmental progress doesn’t depend on any single administration or election. It’s sustained by our daily actions that contribute to a healthier more sustainable planet. Every individual has the power to create change. Join community cleanups, tree plantings, or peaceful demonstrations, or go big and join reef conservation international in our marine conservation efforts.  When individuals act, communities form. When communities speak up, leaders listen.

What Small Things Can I Do That Make A Difference?

Waste Reduction & Recycling

  • Bring reusable bags to the grocery store.
  • Start a compost bin to reduce food waste.
  • Stop using single-use plastic bottles and opt for a refillable bottle.
  • Skip plastic straws and cutlery with takeout food.
  • Switch to paperless billing for all accounts.

Energy & Water Conservation

  • Swap incandescent bulbs for LEDs, which last over 11 years.
  • Unplug electronics not in use to reduce “phantom” energy consumption.
  • Take shorter showers to save water.
  • Wash laundry in cold water and hang clothes to dry.
  • Run dishwashers only when full to save water and energy.

Nature & Community

  • Pick up trash in a local park, on a trail, or in your neighborhood.
  • Plant a pollinator garden with native flowers to support bees and butterflies.
  • Plant a tree in your yard or participate in a local planting event.
  • Start a small backyard or container garden to grow your own food.
  • Enjoy nature by going on a walk or hike to appreciate local nature.

Sustainable Choices

  • Try meatless meals to reduce your carbon footprint.
  • Buy local produce at farmers’ markets to reduce transportation emissions.
  • Fix, mend, or repair items instead of throwing them away.
  • Use eco-friendly cleaning products or simple alternatives like vinegar and baking soda.
  • Walk, bike, or use public transport for small trips.
